why PLom/8 is so easy to beat

This is why its so easy to destroy the kippers....

I've been playign for 20 mins or so and running v slow- seeing little- so ive spent my time watching the other players. Sphere has made some poor plays but has built his stack through sheer luck. I know i can take them off him if the right opportunity arises.

Then this happens.

[Nov 15 01:58:08] : mccanro posted small blind.
[Nov 15 01:58:09] : kmcmen posted big blind.
[Nov 15 01:58:09] : Game [3268] started with 6 players.
[Nov 15 01:58:09] : Dealing Hole Cards.
[Nov 15 01:58:09] : Seat 3 : Junglecat03 has Ad 4h 5c Ah

Very nice starting hand. Pair of Aces, three wheel cards and suited ace meaning any flush i make is the nut flush. PLus I'm perfectly positioned on the button. Only problem is if i flop 3rd low or soemthing i cant get too attached to it in the face of resistance.

[Nov 15 01:58:11] : yehaw folded.
[Nov 15 01:58:12] : Cyboy called $1
[Nov 15 01:58:15] : sphere called $1
[Nov 15 01:58:21] : Junglecat03 called $1 and raised $3

Yep lets start building the pot.

[Nov 15 01:58:29] : mccanro folded.
[Nov 15 01:58:29] : kmcmen called $3
[Nov 15 01:58:30] : Cyboy called $3
[Nov 15 01:58:33] : sphere called $3

Good he's in. This is my man. I want his $s.

[Nov 15 01:58:33] : Dealing flop.
[Nov 15 01:58:33] : Board cards [2d 6h 3h]

OMG - ludicrously good flop, nuts both ways with nut flush redraw. Theres the sound of corks being popped coming from the feline's direction.

[Nov 15 01:58:36] : kmcmen checked.
[Nov 15 01:58:38] : Cyboy checked.
[Nov 15 01:58:41] : sphere checked.

[Nov 15 01:58:45] : Junglecat03 bet $4

No point slowplaying too much a 4$ bet will invite some1 in, maybe catch some1 with the nut str8 too who i can freeroll off. People call with sets and other flush draws here too primarily because they are scaly and breathe through gills.

[Nov 15 01:58:48] : kmcmen folded.
[Nov 15 01:58:51] : Cyboy folded.
[Nov 15 01:58:57] : sphere called $4 and raised $16

Hehe, he check raised me the kipper! I'm guessing he also has flopped the str8 so im freerolling on him wiht my flushdraw for high and already quartering him wiht my nut lo. I know he;s not capable of making a big laydown so i decide to fast play here to prevent any scare cards killing my action.

[Nov 15 01:59:06] : Junglecat03 called $16 and raised $56.50

[Nov 15 01:59:08] : sphere called $56.50

[Nov 15 01:59:08] : Dealing turn.
[Nov 15 01:59:08] : Board cards [2d 6h 3h 7d]

[Nov 15 01:59:13] : sphere checked. After the flat call and the check i have reevaluated and decided he just has the nut lo. Whatever hes pot stuck so i dump my last 15$ in.

[Nov 15 01:59:44] : Junglecat03 bet $15.68 and is All-in
[Nov 15 01:59:49] : sphere called $15.68
[Nov 15 01:59:50] : Showdown!
[Nov 15 01:59:50] : Seat 3 : Junglecat03 has Ad 4h 5c Ah
[Nov 15 01:59:51] : Seat 3 : Junglecat03 has Ad 4h 5c Ah
[Nov 15 01:59:51] : Seat 8 : sphere has Th 7c Kh 7s
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Seat 3 : Junglecat03 has Ad 4h 5c Ah
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Junglecat03 has high hand : Straight 76543
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Junglecat03 has low hand : 5432A
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Seat 8 : sphere has Th 7c Kh 7s
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : sphere has 3 of a Kind: 7s
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Junglecat03 wins $98.93 with low hand : 5432A
[Nov 15 01:59:55] : Junglecat03 wins $98.93 with high hand : Straight 76543
[Nov 15 02:00:04] : Hand is over.

I am genuinely shocked to see his hand. I knew he was bad but this bad? He check raised me on a dangerous board with a King high flush draw! Even if he hits and its good (which it wouldnt have been) he'll usually only be chopping here. All the money he is putting in can only be lost, cant be used to win any more. Simply awful.

That's one of the keys at this level of om/8. Don't get drawing at half the pot if it just means you will chop. There are exceptions to this such as when you have a big draw to a nut hand and several poor players are in the pot as weaker flushes, str8s and full houses will often pay you off and if you are splitting you may be getting 50% of a pot where you have contributed only 20-30% of the chips. It is still tight though and these situations are marginal.

Gotta love it.
